COMMUNITY INVITED TO OPEN HOUSE AND CELEBRATION SEPTEMBER 9-10

Summer vacation is almost over, but the fun in Cochrane never is. The Town of Cochrane and Spray Lake Sawmills Family Sports Centre are hosting the biggest party of the year at the aquatic and curling/multi-sport centre.

The entire community is invited to a celebration of the whole sports centre facility on Saturday September 9 and Sunday September 10. It’s a special weekend to get in the pool and splash park, try the fitness centre, curling, a class in one of the program rooms, or watch one of the special presentations and performances.

The event runs 11am until 3pm both days and has fun events for the whole family, including:

  • Sponsor presentations
  • Donor wall unveiling
  • Try-a-sport
  • Dunk tank
  • Sports demos (with special guests)
  • Special displays, performances and entertainment
  • Games and activities for all ages
  • Rock the Waves barbeque fundraiser
  • A chance to win great prizes

A few short speeches and special presentations get things rolling Saturday at 11am, and the whole weekend has opportunities to contribute to the Rock the Waves fundraising campaign.

Work began in March 2015 on the $48 million, 150,000 square foot expansion to Cochrane’s Spray Lake Sawmills Family Sports Centre.

Project details:

  • Location: 800 Griffin Rd E, Cochrane, Alberta
  • Jayman BUILT Aquatic Centre
    • Eight 25-metre lanes for competitive and lane swimming
    • Two slides
    • Large hot tub
    • Leisure pool with lazy river and wave chamber
    • Warm-water therapy pool
  • Six full curling sheets; three junior curling sheets
  • Fireside of Cochrane Fitness Centre
  • Tenant space
  • Programming space

Rock the Waves fundraising goal is $10.6 million in community contributions and sponsorships, with $4.9 million raised so far.

Other funding came from the provincial sources ($22.7 million in approved Municipal Sustainability Initiative), federal programs ($2,330,122 of its federal Gas Tax Fund) and through the support of Cochrane and area residents, generous community organizations, developers, individuals and Rocky View County.

More details on the September community celebration are on cochrane.ca or slssportscentre.com, including the opportunity to make a nomination for the dunk tank.
